Magazine At One Tree Island.

With reference to your No. 609/1898 of 3rd.

July, the Nobel's Explosives Co. Ltd. of Glasgow are much con-

-cerned by reason of His Excellency the Governor's decision not

to renew the lease of One Tree Island, which they have held for some 20 years, during which period all Government Regulations

have been strictly complied with, and no complaints have over

been made as to condition of either Magazine or stocks.

We understand one of the main reasons for

His Excellency's decision in this matter, is that increased

revenue may he secured for the Government Magazine at Green

Island, and as it may be a matter of indifference to the

Government whether this increased revenue is obtained directly

or indirectly, we venture to propose that the Lease of One Tree Island be renewed an an enhanced rental, say $250 per month instead of $600 per annum as at present. We propose this

matter as a tentative measure for 6 months, 1 year or for a

longer period as may suit the Government.
